  • Providing quality services that treat illness, promoting and sustaining wellness, and preventing the spread of disease, injury, and disability;
  • Participating in and supporting training and research; and
  • Serving the healthcare needs of the community.

  • The Hospital has partnered with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for over 130 years through its teaching and research affiliation
  • SFGH has been at the same location in the Mission district since 1872
  • It is home to the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving over 1.5 million people living and working in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties
  • It is the largest acute and rehabilitation hospital for psychiatric patients
  • Offers the only Psychiatric Emergency Service in San Francisco
  • It is the safety net hospital for San Francisco's most needy residents
  • Last year, SFGHMC delivered in-patient services to nearly 100,000 people and over 80,000 people in the outpatient clinics
  • SFGHMC receives approximately 30% of all patients transported by ambulance in the city
