Giving Life to the Community
Artists
Jenny Balisle:

From very early on I was steered towards the Arts. My first illustrations were hand published in one of my father's poetry books as this "unknown poet" spent time hitchhiking across America trading books of poetry for food and places to stay. At age four, my first commissioned works were for professors of my mother's night classes. She often told me to "Sit, stay, be good and draw." It was obvious that I would be an artist.
My extreme passion came from my mother's own continued determination, and my creation came from my father's constantly churning mind. But neither of which are enough without also having focused motivation.
My insane motivation provides a need to continually create. My routine of studio work in West Oakland leaves many wondering why I do not tire. In addition to a BA in Art and Communication from University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point, I have completed a MFA in Fine Art from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.
My inspiration comes from events and people I interact with and despite the fact that my creations are non-representational, they display emotion to me. Using a two-handed approach, I create multiple layers that often are not seen by the viewer but regardless, represent process and rhythm of the outside environment.
