Gary Bukovnik:
Gary Bukovnik works with watercolor, monotype, and lithography to fuse sensual vitality with powerful and fluid colorations, creating floral images of great depth and intensity that have a monumental quality. Last year, Bukovnik was invited to attend the American Academy in Rome as a Visiting Artist, and in 2001 he was selected to create a poster for the prestigious List Collection, which creates posters to commemorate programs at Lincoln Center. Past contributors have included Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Murray, and Donald Sultan. Solo exhibitions in 2003 include Old Town Gallery, Park City; Paula Brown Gallery, Toledo; and Editions Limited Gallery, Indianapolis. Other recent exhibitions have been organized by galleries nationally and internationally. Bukovnik's work is also represented in diverse public and private collections, such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Chicago Museum of Art; Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown; Fine Arts Museums, San Francisco; Bank of America; AT&T; Neiman-Marcus; and Westin Bonaventure Hotel, Los Angeles. Bukovnik's work has also been the subject of Flowers: Gary Bukovnik Watercolors and Monotypes, published by Harry N. Abrams, New York.
Gary Bukovnik is Cleveland born and educated but has lived and worked as an artist in San Francisco for over 25 years. He also donates his art to benefit community and civic organizations. He is represented by Elins Eagles-Smith Gallery in San Francisco.
