Dana Chen:

Born in the Bay Area as a first generation Taiwanese American, Dana was raised with the duality of two different cultures. Her family was torn between becoming modern Americans while having the roots of Taiwanese tradition. Living in San Francisco and continually surrounded by diverse cultures and ethnicities, she began to observe the universalities that tie people together such as the body, family and children.

In her recent work, she uses children as a universal portrait for people of all backgrounds. By showing the common behavior and body language of children, she reminds us that everyone has similar origins. She explores children as a symbol for childhood, family and the future generations for all cultures and ethnicities.

Dana attended University of California, San Diego, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Visual Art. She began as a figurative sculptor and continued to concentrate on the figure as she moved into photography and oil painting. She also studied painting at the Art Institute in Florence, Italy. Currently, Dana is represented by HANG ART gallery in San Francisco.
