Marguerite Chiang:

Marguerite Chiang is a French artist who lives and works in Palo Alto, California. Best known for her sculptural jewelry pieces, Chiang has been featured in numerous national and international juried exhibitions. In 2003, she was selected as runner-up for the American Jewelry Design Council New Talent Contest. She is having her first solo exhibition at the Works Gallery in Philadelphia in May 2004. Concurrently with her jewelry work, Chiang is also involved with several large sculptural installation projects at San Jose State University. When asked about her work, Chiang says, "at the beginning of my creative process, there is always a strong emotion, looking for a concrete and durable expression. Each one of my works is a visual haiku, a way for me to capture in matter the fragility of a particular moment as I experienced it. The most important thing for me is to maintain the purity of expression in the final piece, so that the initial impetus for making it is still alive in the end."
