Giving Life to the Community

Artists

Marrianne Fay:

I am a Bay Area artist, born and raised in San Francisco. I work primarily in painting, drawing, and some photography. My mediums are primarily acrylic paint, oil and chalk pastel, charcoal, watercolor, pencil, film and mixed media.

My work is often termed "expressionist," as I have a tendency to record the human experience and its emotional impact. The Heart project has particular importance to me, as my brother Jim's life was saved by SF General Hospital's Emergency Trauma unit when, in 1987, he was stabbed in the heart by a man with psychiatric troubles. My brother's immediate open-heart surgery and subsequent care at the hands of SF General's Trauma unit and Intensive Care unit saved his life. I am hoping that by participating in this project I will be able to show my gratitude towards this amazing hospital, and to give back something of value as a small repayment for the gift of my brother's life.
