Charles Hobson:

Charles Hobson is an artist who has worked with images and words for more than fifteen years. Usually following literary or historical themes, his books have covered topics as diverse as famous couples who met in Paris (Parisian Encounters), shipwrecks along the California coast (Shipwreck Stories) and the relationship between Surrealism and the search for longitude in the 18th century (Clouds & Dreams). His book Writing on the Body is a homage to Edgar Degas and his drawing lessons.
Hobson uses pastel, monotypes and other printmaking variations to construct his images for books and works on paper. He has been a member of the faculty at the San Francisco Art Institute since 1990 and his work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the New York Public Library, the Whitney Museum, the National Gallery, Stanford University, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Getty Center, among others.
