Giving Life to the Community

James Jarrett:

James was born in Walnut Creek, California and moved to Germany with his family in 1972 where he had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe gaining an early exposure to art. James started painting at the age of 16, gaining a strong foundation in realism, and impressionistic works, but it was the works of abstract expressionists that James was drawn to and in 1990 James started experimenting with abstract painting and broke away from realism to pursue the challenge and excitement of expressing through this style.

James relies on direct observations of the environment, meditation experience, and experimentation combined with conventional painting techniques. His influences are his love for unique, self-expressive people, and the beauty of the natural environment. Currently his paintings consist of a simple composition, allowing the complexity of a single color to unfold with a rich intensity.

In 2002 James was featured in an Emmy nominated documentary Rediscovering the Labyrinth . A moving documentary about people whose lives have changed by walking the labyrinth, including the story of how James transformed his life into a fulltime painting career.

James Jarrett paintings sell through out the United States and internationally. Several prestigious art collectors continue to add Mr. Jarrett's paintings to their collection. James Jarrett currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.
