Giving Life to the Community

Kathryn Kain:

Kathryn Kain is known for her drawings, paintings and collages. At her studio in the Hunters Point Shipyard she weaves drawings of flowers and botanicals with feminine and domestically inclined images into dream-like narrative collages. Drawing and observation play a central role in the creation of these images. In Kathryn's work nature and culture combine to make a playful commentary, informed by Americana, Catholicism, and feminine archetypes, among other favorite themes.

Born in Toledo, Ohio and working in the bay area since 1980, Kathryn has earned fine arts degrees from San Jose University and San Francisco Art Institute, with an emphasis in printmaking. She is currently represented by Smith-Andersen Gallery in Palo Alto, California. In addition to exhibiting her work nationally, she has taught printmaking at Stanford and Dominican universities and is currently the master printer at Smith-Andersen Editions in Palo Alto.
