Doug Anderson
Bio and Resumé
Doug Anderson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1957. Raised in Northern California he began working with clay at the early age of 14. As a young ceramics artist, Doug received numerous accolades, including Bank of America's Honor Award for Best Artist in his high school graduating class. His very first Art Show took place in Belmont, California when Doug was only 17 years old. In 1980 he graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Ceramics and Glass. In 1982 Doug moved his studio to San Francisco, where he perfected his skills. In his new studio he developed two distinct styles; his sculptural free form called "A Beginning" and his humorous, distinctive character work. These inimitable characters have since decorated the lids of cookie jars, tea pots, and are the origin of his extremely successful chess sets. His unique caricatures have made their way to various private collections all over the world. Individuals who have collected his work over the years make up a veritable who's who list among distinguished citizens. His work has now evolved to include chic, innovative household items such as his very popular "Stealth" hanging planters. Doug works passionately in his studio, therefore his favorite reaction is when people laugh and smile at his character pieces. In the year 2005, Doug has begun working as Chief Artist and Designer for "Style Ceramics International" based in Hong Kong and "More U.K." in England. Doug's career now has him spending a lot of time working with his creative team in Puning City, China.
