I tell stories through paintings. They are a buildup of fragments linked togeth er by my blended recollections; visual second cousins of oral tradition. Each canvas presents a narrative abstracted into colorful poignant details. I pour sheer layers of oil paint glazes onto my surfaces and let their drips conceal and reveal words, scribbles, texture and faded photo transfer images. They are not recognizable forms, but instead visual commentary on the most common subtleties of human int er action and nuance brought to life. I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and received my Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell Univ er sity with an emphasis in Fine Art. I live and work in Oakland , CA , where I am an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the California College of Arts. My work has been included in several group and solo exhibitions including: The Studio Museum of Harlem's "Harlemworld"(NY); Yerba Buena Center for the Arts "Black Panther :Rank&File"(SF) and most recently in "The Accidentally Real" at Sara Tecchia Roma Gallery (NY), and "Summer Solos" at ProArts Gallery (CA). I am the recipient of the Robert J. Eidlitz Fellowship to Ethiopia and the Schefflin & Somorset Emerging Artist Award.
