Antoinette Griffin

Our next hero is Antoinette Griffin. Antoinette is a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist at SF General where she has worked for the last 19 years. She is a consultant resource for nurses, physicians, residents and medical students throughout the hospital. Antoinette works directly with some of San Francisco General's most vulnerable patients: individuals who have multiple complex medical, psychiatric, psychological and substance abuse problems.

Antoinette works with more than 700 patients a year. Despite her overwhelming responsibility and care for her patients, Antoinette approaches each and every one with compassion, skill, generosity and heart.

Even at what can be the most trying of times for the rest of us, Antoinette works through the psychological challenges that many of her patients face, whether they are angry, impulsive or aggressive. Somehow through it all, Antoinette is able to acknowledge their pain, sympathize with their discomfort and create a connection.

Antoinette stands up for what she believes in, she is an advocate for those who have so little. She is a true hero.
